End of Term Course Evaluations

The University's expectation is that all faculty will be evaluated in all courses taught each year. According to the Virginia Tech Faculty Handbook (Section 4.10.1),

Student evaluation of courses and instructors is an integral component of a good teaching program. While specific procedures may vary across campus, in general, committees in each college are responsible for designing appropriate evaluation procedures and for receiving such evaluations. Faculty members should ensure that their colleges procedures for conducting student teaching evaluations are followed in a way is absolutely free of intimidation or influence by the teachers presence.

The process changes a bit when students and faculty are separated by physical and temporal distance, but it is still important to administer standard evaluation forms.

IDDL provides faculty teaching online or videoconferencing courses with a link to an online evaluation form to send to their students. The form contains the same questions as the classroom-based spot form plus additional questions regarding technology used, and the quality of support services and overall eLearning experience. IDDL receives and analyzes the results of student responses and unless otherwise stipulated by individual colleges, provides the results to only the faculty member.
